The birth of a new baby is always a joy; more so when it is twins! However, some packages come tangled together and we have to untangle them in order to truly enjoy the gifts. This was the case in a home in Gaza last Sunday.
A Palestinian couple was blessed with conjoined twins in Gaza last Sunday. The twins named Haneen and Farah who were born with their abdomen and pelvic joined needed treatment in order to survive.
Lucky for them, the Crown prince of Saudi Arabia compassionately offered to foot the bill incurred for the transit from Gaza to Riyadh as well as for the tests and treatment necessary to separate them.
The transfer was suggested by Dr. Allam Abu Hamda who is the Head of Neonatal Unit at the Gaza Shifa Hospital as there was no hospital in the Gaza strip that could manage the separation.
The General Supervisor of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulazizal- Rabeeah stated that the Prince’s generosity would enable the twins to be transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh and even allow for the study of possible procedures that could help separate them.
He added that the twins were not only joined at the abdomen, but also shared some internal organs and shared one lower limb. It would hence take some precise medical tests and procedures to determine the organs shared and find a possible way of separating them.
