Using a Cell Phone With Earpieces or External Speakers While Driving Is Not Considered a Traffic Violation

In the wake of roadway security measures, comes another policy from the Saudi General Department of Traffic (GDT). It has cleared the air surrounding the restriction on using a phone while driving. There was a lot of hue and cry amongst the public who used an ear piece while driving.

In its announcement to the public, GDT said using an ear piece or speaking through a loud speaker is allowed while driving. The idea behind the policy was to ensure that the driver doesn’t lose concentration while driving.

Also, it is not a traffic violation if a phone is used in stationary car parked at pavement or waiting at the traffic light till it turns green.

This statement was made to supplement the action taken last week by Saudi council, to set-up secret surveillance cameras to monitor traffic violations.
